Key data
** Sale on behalf of customer **
Offered for sale is a 1938 Delage competition car. In the late 1970s, the car was transformed in England by David Fairley into a competition machine for participation in Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) events. The project was based on a Delage 6.70 Sports Limousine.
The conversion was inspired by the famous Delage ERA racing car, originally conceived and developed to perfection by Patrick Lindsay. In 1997, this Delage GP Special passed into the ownership of Rod King, who retained it until 2014 and campaigned it with considerable success in numerous VSCC race meetings. The car was subsequently sold to Germany, where it has remained in active use ever since.
Under its current ownership, the Delage has participated in many prestigious historic motorsport events, including the Nürburgring Classic, Solitude Revival, Jochpass Memorial, and the Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
This road-legal competition car is powered by a 2.5-litre Jaguar SS100 inline six-cylinder engine, paired with a four-speed Moss gearbox and equipped with a Marshall-Roots supercharger fed by a 2.5-inch SU carburettor.
The Delage GP Special offered here is fully prepared for immediate use. It benefits from an intriguing history and is registered for road use in Germany.
The mechanical specification has been continuously refined and regularly maintained by a specialist workshop near Munich with extensive expertise in British classic automobiles. Comprehensive service and maintenance invoices are available.
